A goal in each half by Deltas forward Tommy Heinemann secured San Francisco’s fourth victory in a row in league play.

Playing at home at Kezar Stadium the Deltas scored in the first half when winger Danny Cruz crossed in a header to the far post. Heinemann headed it away from the keeper and it bounced into the goal.

The Deltas almost coughed up the lead early in the second half when Kenny Teijsse was judged to have fouled a Puerto Rico player in the penalty box.

However Deltas keeper Romuald Pesier guessed correctly on Jairo Puerto’s penalty kick and deflected it wide.

Later in the second half Heinemann struck from distance to put the game out of reach.

The win kept the Deltas on pace with Miami FC who plays on the 4th of July. If Miami tie or lose to North Carolina FC that would set up a home and home series between San Francisco and Miami to decide the Spring Season title.

“The mentality is that we have to go [to Miami] and try and get the win,” said Deltas coach Marc DosSantos. “Depending what happens in [Miami’s game] against North Carolina, we still have a shot at this and we have to believe in it. Hopefully, we’re going to be able to bring a big game the last day of the Spring Season to San Francisco.”
