Two San Francisco Bay Area stadiums were among fourteen selected as host venues for the Concacaf 2025 Gold Cup next summer.
Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara and nearby PayPal Park in San Jose will host an indeterminate amount of games for the tournament. The dates and games the venues will hold have not yet been released. Levi’s stadium has been used twice in the Gold Cup, including hosting the final match in 2017. This will be the first time ever PayPal Park, the home of MLS’s San Jose Earthquakes and NWSL’s Bay FC, has been a Gold Cup venue.
Sixteen teams will participate in the football tournament next summer, starting on June 14th and running through July 6th, 2025. Four groups of four teams will compete in a group stage, with the top two advancing to the tournament’s quarterfinals.
The tournament will have a definite West Coast bias in venues. Five of the fourteen venues will be located in California, with Vancouver, Las Vegas, and Phoneix also hosting games. Four more venues are in Texas, and the others are in Minneapolis and St. Louis. Interestingly, no venues east of the Mississippi River were selected for the 2025 Gold Cup.
Speculation is most of the venues on the East Coast are being used for FIFA’s Club World Cup which is expected to run around the same timeframe next summer as the Gold Cup.
“As the last official centralized tournament in our region before the FIFA World Cup 2026, this Gold Cup will provide all participating federations with a great challenge and will be critical to their preparations for World Cup qualification and for participation in the FIFA World Cup itself,” noted Concacaf President and FIFA Vice President, Victor Montagliani.
The SF Bay Area will host six FIFA World Cup games at Levi’s Stadium.
