Through the first month of the season, it’s clear that Bay FC will need its offense to score more goals than its defense concedes. But on Saturday, multiple defensive errors doomed Bay FC to a 5-2 road loss to KC Current.
Two KC goals in the first ten minutes were both because of giveaways by Bay FC in the midfield.
The first came two minutes into the game when Bay FC’s Deyna Castellanos’s backpass went to no one in particular. KC’s Bia Zaneratto ran onto it and calmly converted the opportunity.
Five minutes later, poor coverage in the box allowed Current midfielder Bayley Feist an open head and a two goal advantage.
Bay FC responded well when, ten minutes later, Kayla Sharples headed home a goal to bring the visitors back within striking distance. Bay had several other good chances in the first half but was unable to convert.
Unfortunately, after hanging with KC into the second half, Bay goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx made two unfortunate mistakes, digging too deep a hole for her team to dig out of.
In the 56th minute, KC’s Vanessa DiBernardo’s long pass found Temwa Chawinga in the box, and she toe-poked her shot past an unexpecting Proulx and into the net.
Just six minutes later Di Bernardo found Chawinga again on the attack and saw Proulx was out of position. She chipped the Bay FC keeper to make the score 4-1.
Bia Zaneratto scored one more in the 73rd before Tess Boade converted a nice opportunity in the 78th minute, resulting in the final score of 5-2.
Bay FC’s next game is on the road, this time against the San Diego Wave, on Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m.
