The San Francisco Glens’ hard-earned victory over Project 51O clinched their ticket to the USL League 2 postseason. Also: SF City earned a win over Marin FC Legends.
Glens join Monterey in playoffs
This season’s USL League 2 NorCal Conference title race has turned into a two-team race, with the San Francisco Glens chasing Monterey Bay FC 2.
The Glens kept pace with Monterey Bay after their 1-0 victory over Project 51O on Sunday evening.
After a scoreless first half, the deciding goal occurred on a quickly taken Glens’ throw in the 64th minute.
SF’s Angel Iniguez threw the ball down the line to teammate Max Chretien who headed it into the path of Dominic Valdivia, racing in on goal.
As the 51O defense attempted to stop Valdivia, he slotted a pass across the goal to Declan O’Flynn, who blasted his low shot into the net.
The victory ensured that the Glens would join Monterey in the playoffs, and now all that is left for the two teams to battle for first or second place.
San Francisco remains three points behind Monterey, with two games remaining for both teams.
SF City defeats Marin FC
Last Saturday, SF City’s Alan Bedolla spotted his team the early lead in the tenth minute against Marin FC. Early in the second half Marin FC’s Christopher Maldonado tied up the match. However, SF’s Benjamin Do gave City the lead back in the 57th minute, and Bedolla scored his second in the 67th minute for the final 3-1 scoreline.
Although SF City has been eliminated from the postseason, they still can determine who finishes first and second in the NorCal division. This weekend City will host first-place Monterey Bay FC 2 at Boxer Stadium and finish off the season with the San Francisco Derby against the Glens at Kezar Stadium on July 15.
