After a bright start to the season, the Oakland Roots have hit a road bump with their second loss in a row.
The Roots conceded goals in each half to lose on the road to Loundon United on Sunday afternoon.
Oakland had the first good chance of the game in the 10th minute when Irakoze Donasiyano sprung Bryan Tamacas behind the Loundon defense, but keeper Hugo Fauroux pared away his shot.
The home side took control of the game. Loundon had a couple of opportunities and took advantage of a high boot foul from the Roots in the penalty box, which Zach Ryan converted in the 30th minute.
Loundon United kept up the pressure. In the 58th minute, United’s Panos Armenakas picked up a loose ball just outside the penalty box and perfectly placed a shot into the top right corner of the goal Roots keeper Paul Blanchette.
It was another frustrating result for the Roots, who held a significant advantage in possession and outshot their opponents for the second game in a row but came away with the loss.
Oakland will have to rebound quickly. They travel back across the country for a short trip to Sacramento to take on the Republic in the third round of the US Open Cup on Wednesday evening.
