When The Town FC last year announced its intention to create a pro men’s and women’s team in Oakland and the East Bay, the project’s ‘Town Council’ noted their organization’s purpose was to give back and grow the local soccer community.
This week The Town FC announced the first step in that mission by creating a charitable arm known as The Town Futures Project.
In a press release, the club announced the Futures Project would support community improvement projects as well as create The Town FC’s future youth academy to provide a pathway for development for young soccer players in the East Bay.
“Although we are a young organization, we feel it’s imperative to develop an organizational purpose set on driving real change at the community and grassroots level and wanted to make that purpose a founding part of the fabric of The Town FC,” said co-founder Tennyson Wilson. “The launch of The Town Futures Project is a natural progression of our club’s commitment to making a positive impact locally.”
The club also announced its first charitable venture, partnering with the US Teqball Federation to provide Teqball tables to local East Bay soccer organizations.
According to their release, Teqball is a new sport played on a curbed table similar in size to one used to play table tennis. It is supposed to improve a player’s intuitive soccer skills by requiring them to develop a quick reaction time to compete successfully in the game.
“Teqball USA is excited to partner with The Town Futures project in this joint venture to provide personal growth and play opportunities for the community of Oakland/East Bay region through the sport of Teqball,” said Ajay Nwosu, CEO of Teqball USA. “On a global level, Teqball’s values have always been rooted in service and uplifting communities through the joy of sport, and that mission has been continued and strengthened via this relationship.”
The Town Futures Project is the latest announcement from The Town FC as it continues to grow its organization. Earlier this year, the club announced it is joining the WPSL in 2024 and will join the league’s new third-division pro league in 2025.
Besides their women’s team, The Town FC is also looking at possibly bringing a men’s pro team to the Bay Area, most likely in the third-division MLS Next Pro league, and hopes to possibly one day bring an NWSL team to the Oakland Coliseum complex.
