Cardinal’s Second Half Surge Overwhelms San Jose State
The Cardinal wrapped up their season-opening four-match homestand with a 4-0 win over San Jose State (1-2-1) on Sunday.
The Cardinal got on the board in the 23rd minute, as four Stanford attackers flooded the penalty area. Fletcher Bank’s blast from the left side was deflected away by Spartans goalkeeper David Sweeney, but Carlo Agostinelli was there to put in the rebound.
Stanford was in control from the opening whistle, but didn’t score again until the 72nd minute, when Bank put his own name in the scoresheet, converting the rebound on a shot by Liam Doyle.
The third came 4 minutes later, on a shot from Will Reilly from just outside the penalty arc.
Another 4 minutes passed until the Cardinal scored the 4th goal, when Doyle’s shot nutmegged Josh Redfield and slipped past Sweeney.
Cardinal Shuts Down UC Davis
Stanford struggled to score early, but recovered to post a 3-0 victory over UC Davis on Thursday afternoon.
Shane de Flores opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, grabbing a loose ball, dribbling into the penalty area, and releasing a right-footed shot that sailed over the head of Aggies’ goalkeeper Charles Janssen.
The host side added to their lead less than a minute into the second half, when Jackson Kiil emerged from a crowd of players in the box and blasted a shot that rolled into the net. The final goal came in the 87th minute, when Layton Purchase got in the way of a dropkick from substitute goalkeeper Spencer Gillen that ricocheted back into the net.

Ibrahim’s Goal Enables Bears to Earn a Point at UC San Diego
The Golden Bears earned their third consecutive 1-1 draw at UC San Diego on Sunday, in a match where both sides struggled to create chances.
After a scoreless first half, the Tritons appeared to be on their way to victory when Carter Jacobus was fouled in the box by Fahmi Ibrahim in the 72nd minute. Alessandro Allen converted the penalty kick on the Tritons’ only shot on goal of the game.
But Ibrahim leveled the match a little over a minute later, dribbling to the edge of the penalty area and blasting a shot inside the far post. Goalkeeper Dominic Peters couldn’t do anything but watch.
The Golden Bears had two more chances to earn the three points, but Peters stopped Cameron Robie’s shot in the 82nd minute and Adrian Guzman’s blast from distance in the 89th minute went just wide.
Last Second Hail Mary Denies Cal Their First Victory of the Season
Cal opened its two-match road trip to Southern California with a 1-1 draw in 90-degree temperatures at UC Irvine on Friday afternoon.
Irvine’s goalkeeper Nate Pruter made the save of the match in the 38th minute, with a reaction save on a shot by Wyatt Meyer off of a corner kick.
But the Golden Bears got on the board on another set piece just before halftime. After winning a free kick 20 yards from the Irvine goal, Juan Martinez sent a line drive into the box and Nate Carrasco headed the ball just inside the far post.
The Bears appeared to be on their way to earning their first win of the season, but the Anteaters equalized with four seconds left on the clock. Jake Means lobbed a Hail Mary into the crowded box. Cal goalkeeper Collin Travasos came off his line, but was only able to get a hand on the ball. A Cal defender also tried to clear it off the line, but neither was able to keep it out of the net.
Santa Clara (0-2-1)
One Shot on Goal is Enough for Fullerton
Host Santa Clara lost to CSU Fullerton by a score of 1-0 on Friday night.
The Broncos started out strong with four shots in the opening four minutes, but Titans goalkeeper Tetsuya Kadono saved three of them. He made six saves over the full 90 minutes in recording a clean sheet.
Sebastian Cruz scored in the 54th minute on their only shot on goal in the match. Kadono launched the counterattack by tossing the ball to Jorge Quintero near midfield. Quintero sent a perfectly timed through ball to Jessy Sotelo who beat the Santa Clara offside trap. Sotelo got around goalkeeper Felix Schaefer. A Bronco defender caught up with him, so he tapped the ball over to Cruz, who put the ball in the open net.
Saint Mary’s (2-2)
Second Half Golazo Enables Gaels to Top UC Davis
The Gaels got back into the win column with a 3-1 home victory over UC Davis.
After a scoreless first half, the visitors nearly got on the board first in the 61st minute. Saint Mary’s goalkeeper Jack Landreth rose to the occasion, making a right-legged kick save on a shot from the upper left corner of the six-yard box by Cason Goodman.
Saint Mary’s Riley Lynch and Jack Vestberg combined on the give-and-go to set up the first goal of the match in the 66th minute. Vestberg fed the ball to Lynch as he made his run along the left side. Lynch returned the favor, finding Vestberg open in the penalty area. Vestberg’s buried his shot in the far corner, just out of the reach of goalkeeper Charles Janssen.
Saint Mary’s added the second thanks to a UC Davis own goal in the 70th minute. Gael Quintero’s shot from just inside the arc was deflected away by Janssen, but into the path of the Gaels’ Timothy Stephens, who crossed it back toward the middle. Aggies’ defender Luke Goodman reached out his right foot to try and clear it, but ended up redirecting it into the goal.
The Aggies got on the board on a set piece in the 79th minute, when Ethan Hoard headed home a corner kick from Goodman.
Lynch restored the Gaels’ two-goal advantage in the 84th minute. Cade Cowan delivered the ball to Lynch at the top of the penalty area. His left footed shot caromed off of Luke Goodman and Janssen could only watch as the ball settled just inside the near post.
Sacramento State Routs Saint Mary’s
Visiting Sacramento State had their highest scoring output since 2019 in their 4-1 rout over Saint Mary’s on Thursday afternoon.
The Hornets scored first in the 21st minute on a corner kick. Ali Sasankhah grabbed the loose ball and took a shot from eight yards out that caught Saint Mary’s goalkeeper Kash Oladapo off his line.
Austin Wehner extended the visitors’ lead 83 seconds into the second half, on an assist from Dominic Vegaalban. A cross from Gaelen Filtzanidis helped Vegaalban get on the scoresheet himself via a header in the 69th minute.
Saint Mary’s got on the board 90 seconds later, when Gael Quintero redirected a corner kick from Noah Bohane into the path of Christian Engmann, who turned and blasted it into the net.
But their renewed hopes only lasted until the 84th minute. On a short corner kick, Michael Gonzalez found Christo Cervantes who lofted a shot from the left side of the penalty area that bounced off the underside of the crossbar and went in.
USF (3-0-1)
Dons Hand Fullerton Their First Loss of the Season
Arjan Dosanjh’s first goal of his collegiate career was all the Dons needed to beat CSU Fullerton on Monday afternoon.
The goal came just 35 seconds before the halftime whistle. Nathan Simeon dribbled the ball along the right sideline. He sent in a short cross that Dosanjh headed across the goalmouth and inside the far post, just out of the reach of goalkeeper Tetsuya Kadono.
While there was only one goal in the match, both goalkeepers were kept busy. Kadono made 8 saves and USF goalkeeper Eric Waltz made 5.
Dons and Spartans Earn a Point Each
The Dons recovered from giving up an early goal and earned a 1-1 draw with visiting San Jose State on Thursday afternoon.
Joel Garcia gave the Spartans the lead in the fifth minute off of a cross from Finlay Wood.
But Dominic Valdivia evened up the match in the 51st minute on a direct free kick from just beyond the penalty arc. His kick soared over the Spartans’ wall and tucked inside the near post, just out of the reach of goalkeeper David Sweeney.
Goalkeeper Eric Waltz made four saves for USF after transferring from San Jose State in the offseason.
