The USL League 2 Southwest Division title chase will go into the final week of the regular season, with Project 51O in control of its destiny.
With their fifth victory in six games, Project 51O needs only to win one of their next two games to win the division. San Francisco Glens, the one team to take points from 51O recently, cling to a chance at the title.
On Sunday, Project 51O took care of business in their final home game of the season at Ohlone College. Team captain Javier Ruiz Duran scored two goals, including a rocket from outside the box, to get 51O on the board.
Oakland Roots first-team signee Javier Mairona set up Etsgar Cruz for the other goal and a 3-0 scoreline. Mairona has been instrumental in orchestrating the 51O offense contributing three goals and two assists in the past two games.
Hot on their heels in the standings is the San Francisco Glens, who tied 51O on June 18, 1-1.
The Glens kept the pressure up with a 7-0 demolition of Central Valley Fuego FC 2 in their final home game on Sunday, with four goals coming from Max Chretien.
SF Glens will have to defeat Marin FC Legends in San Rafael on Wednesday and Central Valley Fuego FC 2 on Friday to keep the pressure on Project 51O. The two wins would force 51O to win their final game against Fuego FC 2 on Sunday to win the division outright.
In other league action, SF City rebounded from a 5-0 loss to Ventura County Fusion on Friday in their final home game of the season to tie Marin FC Legends 2-2 on Sunday. They travel to SoCal this weekend to take on FC Golden State Force.
After hosting the Glens on Wednesday, Marin FC Legends will finish their season on the road by taking on Davis Legacy SC.
Whoever claims the regular-season crown, the top four teams in the Southwest Division will make the USL League 2 playoffs. Those four teams are set but their seeding is not set: Project 51O and SF Glens from Northern California and Southern California Seahorses and Ventura County Fusion from SoCal.
