After earning a 2-2 draw with Nashville SC on Saturday afternoon, the biggest news should’ve been about Jeremy Ebobisse scoring two more goals this season. However, his display on the pitch was overshadowed by the drama off of it.
One report stated that San Jose Earthquakes coach Matias Almeyda approached the team last week offering to resign but also receive his pay for the rest of the season. Later on, Robert Jonas reported that Almeyda might already be out the door, but an official announcement would not come until Monday.
The media could not ask Almeyda the question because he was not made available after the game. Instead, Ebobisse talked about his goals in the 52nd and 71st minutes that twice allowed the Quakes to tie up Nashville.
“I think it’s about taking it one day at a time and understanding that yes, results, in this case, personal results, are important and are a sign of validation, but they’re not the be-all, end-all,” said Ebobisse. “Day by day, I think we are understanding each other better in the attacking third, and it’s on us to be clinical when we do get chances because as tight as this league and these games are, we know that missing a chance often comes back and hurts you. We’re going to be ready for whoever is in front of us.”
Next up for the Quakes is a US Open Cup game versus Bay Cities FC on Tuesday evening at PayPal Park.
