The Oakland Roots find themselves on the verge of making the USL playoffs in their first season in the league. They sit at 38 points, tied with the Tacoma Defiance, and one point behind LA Galaxy II, which has 39.
Here’s what needs to happen on Saturday for the Roots to make the postseason when Oakland faces off against Sporting Kansas City II at Laney at 7 pm.
If the Oakland Roots win
If they defeat KC, who currently are in last place in their division, they will need the following result to advance.
- Los Angeles Galaxy II to either lose or tie their game against Orange County.
- Oakland holds the tie break over Tacoma so even if they also win the Roots will advance.
If the Oakland Roots tie
- They will not make the playoffs. Even if LA Galaxy loses and the Roots and Galaxy II end up level on points and Tacoma loses or ties, the Galaxy own the tie break due to a superior head-to-head results. Alternatively in this situation Tacoma could claim the final spot if they win their final game against Phoenix Rising jumping over LA and Oakland.
If the Oakland Roots lose
- They will not make the playoffs either.
