San Jose inched closer to a Western Division playoff spot earning a hard-fought draw against FC Dallas.
The night started well for the Earthquakes when Dallas defender Matt Hedges handled the ball in the box. San Jose’s Oswaldo Alanis scored on the ensuing penalty kick.
Ricardo Pepi, fresh off his impressive play for the US Men’s National team, equalized for Dallas in the 50th minute.
“In my humble perspective of football, I think we faced the best forward in the league today, and he is unforgiving,” said San Jose head coach Matias Almeyda after the game. “Other than that, the match was even. Each team had a better half. Our work and effort have become this, and that is the reality.”
San Jose now has a seven-game unbeaten streak on the road and will look to continue to add points at PayPal Park against Real Salt Lake.
“That same confidence we have when we play on the road, we need to have it at home and make PayPal Park our fortress as a really tough place to play and make sure teams don’t want to go there,” said Quakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski.
