The 2021 San Francisco Soccer Football League summer season finished up this past weekend with Oakland Soccer Club raising the Premier Division Cup by defeating San Francisco Vikings Soccer Club 4-3.
San Francisco City FC could not play its first division club in the USL League 2 this year due to the pandemic. However, its B-side earned a promotion to the Premier League after finishing top of the table in the Majors Divison (the SFSFL second division), topping second-place Berenice SC by six points.
SF Glens U-23 (the organization’s 4th level team) took the title in the First Division (SFSFL’s third division), going undefeated with 19 points, topping a trio of teams: Inter SF, Oakland SC Reserves, and SF Metropolitan Reserves.
The SFSFL began play in 1902. It is one of the oldest semi-professional leagues in the United States. Next year will be the 120th anniversary of the league. Four of its clubs have won the US Open Cup, the country’s largest soccer cup competition of professional and amateur teams. San Francisco Athletic Club won the cup in 1976, S Greek-American in 1985, San Francisco C.D. Mexico (also known as El Farolito) in 1993, and the Greek-American SC in 1994. They were the last semi-pro team to win the cup competition.
The COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic shortened this year’s SFSFL season.
